boyfriend: this one girl was telling me
boyfriend: her dad used to tease her about falling at heights
boyfriend: and now she is freaked out about being in high places
boyfriend: dads are mean
Cupcakes: yeah, parents can really mess their kids up that way. my mom did stuff like that to us-- really weird fears
Cupcakes: like, the woman is completely freaked out by ouija boards and will not let one in the house
Cupcakes: i remember one time i borrowed one from my sister's friend and my cousin was over and we were going to play with it and my mom was like "DON'T LET YOUR COUSIN TOUCH IT! DON'T TAKE IT OUT OF THE BOX!!! GET THAT AWAY!"
Cupcakes: my mom's kind of a scaredy cat, though
Cupcakes: yet she had no qualms about letting my sister (6) and me (3) watch Stephen King's "It" while in our hotel at disney world
boyfriend: mmm
Cupcakes: yeah, sometimes my mom has her priorities messed up
Cupcakes: parker-brothers board game vs. terrifying movie about a killer clown
Cupcakes: other things that scare my mother: david bowie, ferris wheels, pink floyd, led zeppelin, mixing toilet cleaner and clorox in a closed room, anaphylaxis, janis joplin
Cupcakes: yet at the age of 8 she found a book at the library for me to read about Lizzie Borden
Cupcakes: oh, and mushrooms that grow in the yard freaked my mother out when we were kids bc she was certain we were going to eat them
Cupcakes: yet she'd let us drink wine coolers and watch scary movies with her
Cupcakes: i do remember watching arachnaphobia with her when i was 4 or 5 and spending my entire childhood terrified of spiders
Cupcakes: she also took me to see Twister after which i was terrified of tornadoe
boyfriend: heh
